Leaks from the tank gasket: why the coffee maker leaks water, explanation and repair

Why is water leaking out?

Water leaks are a common malfunction in this type of coffee makers, whether Krups Dolce Gusto or Delonghi Dolce Gusto. There are several reasons why the coffee maker leaks, depending on how it is leaking.

They are all very different.

We are going to focus on a specific leak caused by deterioration of the deposit seat gasket. This is a malfunction that eventually occurs in all Dolce Gusto coffee makers over time. The most obvious symptom is that the coffee maker loses water very slowly, at all times, without the need for it to be on or for coffee to be brewed. One day we fill the tank, put it in and the next day we find our coffee maker over an interesting puddle of water. Many times we confuse the wear of the gasket of the tank with a breakage (micro-breakage) in the water tank, so we often buy the tank of the coffee maker unnecessarily, and then we realize that the problem persists: BUT, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY COFFEE MACHINE?!

How to check the tank of the coffee maker

We can check that the tank is not damaged by filling it, drying it well on the outside and leaving it 20 minutes on a paper towel, if after this time the paper is still dry, the tank is perfect, the problem is probably in the seat where it fits, the part responsible for the water to pass to the coffee maker.

According to the manufacturers, this fault can be solved by replacing the seat gasket (or the complete part, different in each device, which you can see here) by accessing the inside of the coffee maker, disassembling the housings, but there is a simpler way. Much simpler.

Changing the tank gasket by steps (much simpler version) :

The first thing is to remove the reservoir, which we won't need. We insert a small flat screwdriver into the side of the tank hole (img. 1) and gently pry the gasket out.

Place the new rubber of the Dolce Gusto tank seat in the same place and, with the screwdriver, press gently until it clicks into place. You can check that the new replacement rubber has been correctly positioned by snapping the tank back into place, if it does not have to be forced, the repair is complete.

It is advisable, once this repair has been completed, to fill the tank, put it back in place on the brewer and check in a couple of hours that there is no leak, if there still is, you will probably have to replace the gasket on the brewer, although this is unlikely to happen.

... And that's it! Repairing tank gasket leaks in Krups Dolce Gusto and Delonghi Dolce Gusto is really simple. We hope you have been helpful and we invite you to future blog entries of
